What is Compassionate Inquiry?

Compassionate Inquiry® is a psychotherapeutic approach with attention to the wisdom of the body, developed by Dr. Gabor Maté and further refined by Dr. Sat Dharam Kaur.

This approach gently uncovers and releases layers of trauma, constriction and suppressed emotion stuck in the body. It also uncovers beliefs held in the mind and the protective patterns that lie at the root of mental and physical illness and addiction.

Some of these have their roots in childhood, others may have originated even earlier, before birth. You begin to understand yourself from within, with compassion instead of judgment, and discover that you don’t have to react automatically from old pain but can consciously choose how to respond to what arises.

“You can respond instead of react.” – Gabor Maté

Awareness and transformation go hand in hand. Trauma lives not only in the mind but also in the body. Therefore, true change does not happen only through words but also through feeling, slowing down, and being present.

As Gabor Maté says: “Healing can’t just happen in the mind separately from the body. It cannot happen in the body separately from the mind. Trauma happened in some kind of a relationship. That means that healing needs to happen in relationship.”

A safe, attuned relationship, with yourself and with others, is where old pain can soften. From that space, a new way of being can emerge, one of more authenticity, choice, and inner freedom.

How does a Compassionate Inquiry session look like?

During the sessions, you are welcome exactly as you are. I meet you with an abiding presence, compassionate and without judgment. In that space, everything is allowed to be just as it is.

Compassionate Inquiry is not about fixing or solving, because you are not broken. All answers are already within you.

We gently explore the deeper layers within you: emotions, beliefs, body signals, and hidden stories. From that space, your own insights can arise, not through analysis, but through the connection between mind and body.
